The City of London Corporation is the local authority for the
financial heart of Britain, the City of London. It is committed to
maintaining and enhancing the status of the business City as the
world's leading international financial centre through the policies
it pursues and the high standard of service it delivers.
In addition to the usual local authority functions, the City of
London Corporation provides a host of services for the benefit
of London and the nation as a whole. These include 10,000 acres of
open space - including Epping Forest, Hampstead Heath and Burnham
Beeches - the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, the Greater
London Record Office and the City of London Cemetery, to name but a
few.
The City of London Corporation is one of Britain's largest
supporters of the arts and, as well as being the owner of the
Barbican Centre, it directly subsidises both the Royal Shakespeare
Company and London Symphony Orchestra.
It has a tradition of providing financial support to a wide
range of charitable causes.
